Mahatma Gandhi Bust

Groton School – Groton, MA
2021

Groton School reached out to us to create additional busts for the iconic Schoolroom, which was the original schoolhouse. The new subjects of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, and Eleanor Roosevelt were chosen in order to diversify the existing selection of busts which were all portraits of white men. The student body was instrumental in making this project a priority. A ceremony celebrated the new additions and the school’s forward momentum.

Gandhi (1869-1948) was a lawyer and anti-colonial nationalist in India who helped to secure India’s independence from Britain. He inspired civil rights movements around the globe. In his portrait, the angle of the head and facial expression illustrate his personality and wisdom.
