The Homecoming

The Wright Museum of World War II desired to create for their museum grounds an iconic sculpture representing the celebratory homecomings of American soldiers from the front. The sculpture depicts a husband reuniting with his wife and young son, overjoyed and relieved that they can continue their life now that the war has ended. Creating the sculpture meant a lot to Robert whose father was drafted to fight in WWII. Although his parents weren’t yet married and hadn’t started a family, Robert envisioned the scene as his father coming home from the war, embracing his mother. While to Robert the sculpture may represent his parents, for viewers he wanted it to be a universal reflection of the experience had by so many others.
